Peoria, Arizona, USA – Dunlap-Stone University (DSU) announced today it has been acquired by Fortress Education, LLC, following the retirement of its founder, Dr. Donald N. Burton, effective March 1, 2024.
After careful consideration and deliberation, the Board of Directors of Dunlap-Stone University has accepted an offer from Fortress Education, LLC to acquire the university. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the history of DSU, ensuring its continued commitment to excellence in education and service to students worldwide.

Reflecting on this transition, Dr. Barron expressed gratitude for the vision and dedication of Dr. and Mrs. Burton, stating, "We owe a tremendous debt to the Burtons for their almost 30 years of service to the mission of the University. From the seed of their ideas, DSU has grown to offer quality distance education programs as an accredited institution that has served thousands of students." Dr. Barron continued, "I am excited about this next stage for Dunlap-Stone University and look forward to continuing to offer relevant programs that meet the needs of learners around the world."
"Dunlap-Stone University's stellar reputation made them the perfect partner for Fortress," said Jeffrey Chesner of Fortress Education, LLC. "We have been collaborating with Dr. Barron for some time now, building on her team's strengths, to plan for the next chapter at DSU. We look forward to executing that shared vision."
The transition to new ownership represents an opportunity for DSU to further its mission of providing accessible and innovative education to students globally. With this new leadership and partnership, Dunlap-Stone University is poised to embark on a new chapter of growth and service.
